El Guincho - Alegranza
Written by mpowell
El Guincho is Pablo Díaz-Reixa, a guy from Barcelona who has recently released one of the best albums I’ve heard in the last year, Alegranza.
The music is experimental, an excellent mixture of music from many different sources, including traditional Spanish, African and rock & roll. Yes, that sounds like it’d be annoying, but it’s not — it’s very accessible, very fun music, quite unlike anything I’ve heard before.
I learned about El Guincho from a very positive review on the influential US music site Pitchfork, and immediately found his MySpace profile, where you can listen to and download quite a few songs.
According to his MySpace page, El Guincho will be visiting Valencia on April 12th. I think I’ll be there.

I heard his track Antillas from Pitchfork a while back and loved it. I since got the whole album and I think it would appeal to fans of Animal Collective, etc. He’s down in Texas for SXSW right now and then is doing a show in NYC. Wish I could be there!

Hey Brent! I could’ve guessed that you’d already heard of El Guincho
One day, I will find a great band that you don’t yet know of… even if I have to create it myself.
We’ll let you know how the concert is… hope you can make it VLC sometime!
