Elk City Coming to Valencia
Written by mpowellIn the ADN newspaper today, I read that America’s most important indie band of the moment, Elk City, was coming to Valencia on April 2nd.
Who? Although I try and keep up on indie music, I’d never heard of Elk City. A little online research reveals that they are in fact a band, and even got a mention in Spin Magazine.

But referring to them as America’s most important indie band is a little like saying Albacete is Spain’s most important city. Albacete (the City of Participation!) is probably a perfectly fine little town and if you’ve spent some time in Spain you might have even heard of it. But you’ve most likely never been there, and to call it the most country’s most important city is a claim so wildly off-the-mark that it almost has to be meant in an ironic, mocking manner.
Anyway, there’s no reason to hold it against Elk City, who seem nice enough and are touring Spain in support of their album “New Believers“. The first single, “Cherries in the Snow”, is catchy:
They’ll be at El Loco Club (location) on April 2nd.

I can safely report that Elk City is the not the most important indie group in the US right now. That title might go to Vampire Weekend.
