Learn Spanish in Valencia
Written by valencia blogLooking for a language school in Valencia?
That was one of the first things on my mind once I moved here. When I arrived, I maybe knew 5 words in Spanish and that was it. So in order to start a somewhat normal life, I needed to learn the language as soon as possible. Since I’m not the kind of person who can teach myself a language, I decided to do some research on language schools in Valencia.
There are at least 5 different schools in my neighborhood and I went to all of them to collect information on their programs. I was very surprised how different they were. The worst was a school whose program consists of an hour in which you can listen to a CD and then spend 10 minutes with a native Spanish speaker. It was awfully cheap - but are you going to learn anything? I can listen to a CD at home!
Well, after my research it was pretty clear what school to choose: Babylon!
Their location is extremely central, and the staff took a lot of time highlighting their programs and different classes.
The Babylon language school is found on the first floor of the beautiful building right at Plaza de la Reina:
So I booked my first 2 weeks of Spanish Intensive Course which is usually (I will explain in a second) 4 hours per day for €155 a week (20 hours). It’s not the cheapest course you can find in Valencia, but is definitely worth the money, especially considering that the classes are a max of 8 students. And now that my initial 2 weeks is over, I can report that the money was worth it.
An other advantage is that they promise you to give you classes starting every Monday no matter what level you are at.
It worked out well for me — they didn’t have enough students to form a beginner’s class. So, I had 2 weeks with a private teacher, which was exactly what I needed! It absolutely took away my shyness to speak and I couldn’t use English or German … I had to speak in Spanish. It was painful, but it really gave me a much-needed kick start.
There was one change though: instead of 20 hours in a group I got 7.5 hours with a private teacher. But 1.5 hours a day taking private lessons was enough — any longer would have caused an explosion of my head.
!
Babylon is also perfect if you just want to come here for couple of weeks just to learn Spanish because they also provide cheap accommodation starting at €150 per week and person.

An other highlight of Babylon Valencia is "Happy Miercoles"
Every Wednesday the school invites their students for a first free copa in a bar nearby the school.
Now, let me check my calendar for April so I can book my next 2 weeks. If you are also at Babylon Valencia please say "Hello"
