European Softball Championships

Add to Flipboard Magazine.

Anyone walking through the Turia this week has probably noticed two things. (1) The suffocating, unrelenting heat. (2) Enthusiastic crowds cheering high-quality softball at the baseball pitch (location).

Seems the 2009 European Softball Championships are being held in Valencia this year. The grand final will be held tomorrow, and the four teams left in play are the Czech Republic, Russia, the Netherlands and Britain.

Here are some pics from this afternoon’s match between the Czechs and Russians. If you’re walking by, make sure to take in a few innings. It’s pretty fun!

For our German speaking readers: Tipps zum Michael Schumacher Rennen in Valencia

Finally a bit of great news for Valencia! The legendary Michael Schumacher is stepping in for Ferrari and will be racing in the city’s Formula 1 race, held on August 23rd.

Just like that, Valencia will be hosting the most anticipated F1 race in years. Even I, who could care less about racing, am excited about it! Ticket sales for the race, which had been stagnating, are now sure to get a boost. Who needs stinking Alonso?!

Information on tickets is available on the official webpage fo the Fomula 1 in Valencia, via Corte Ingles or Bancaja. When everything is already sold out (which will happen quickly, if it hasn’t already), then Ebay might be able to help! Valencia Formula 1 Tickets.

Alright, so you’ve got your tickets, your Schumacher t-shirts and Ferrari ballcap… but how do you get to Valencia? You can try and find plane tickets to Valencia with our favorite price comparison egines:

Campus Party 2009

Add to Flipboard Magazine.

Some more pictures towards the end: Campus Party 2009

We went down to Campus Party earlier this week to check out the event which has consumed a huge swath of space on the grounds of the City of Arts and Sciences. And we discovered the place where good geeks go after they die.

It’s a little difficult to precisely describe Campus Party. A congregation of techies? A chance to use and abuse the world’s fastest internet (8.5 GB/second, provided by Telefónica)? A series of conferences and events about new technology? A meeting place for gamers and gaming clans? A giant week-long party complete with drinks and dancing?

It’s all those things. Thousands of young tech buffs, mostly guys but not exclusively, have descended upon the CAC with shopping carts full of computers and equipment. They’re camping out in the parking garage, and spending all week at their computers. We saw guys watching movies, playing Warcraft, checking Facebook, programming, admiring custom PCs, and eating junk food. There was a lot of junk food. And everyone basically looked like they were having a blast.

As far as I understand, the main draws are the blazing fast internet and the opportunity to meet and hang out with techies who share your interests. There are a series of lectures and performances, as well. We might go back to check out the Xbox 360 Guitar Hero finals.

Have any readers of this blog participated in the Campus Party? We’d love to hear about your experience — during our hour walking around the grounds, we were little more than bewildered outsiders.
