Sports Update: ManU, America’s Cup, Schumi

*Update: Schumacher will be not racing in Valencia

What a turbulent week it’s been for the sporting life of Valencia!

Let’s get the bad news out of the way first — the 33rd America’s Cup is leaving Valencia and will be held in the United Arab Emirates. This is terrible news for the city, which has put an enormous amount of money into the renovation and conversion of the America’s Cup harbor. It’ll be interesting to see, now, what happens in this lovely and criminally underused section of Valencia.

Now onto the good news. Michael Schumacher’s return to the F1 couldn’t have come at a better time for either the sport or the city. Levante reports today that the Schumi-Effect has doubled ticket sales for the race, which will be held on August 23rd. Don’t let it upset you too much, Massa, but everyone’s pretty excited that you were seriously injured.

Finally, Los Che are visiting historic Old Trafford tonight for a friendly against Manchester United which begins at 9pm. It’s on Canal Nou, and should be an interesting and entertaining test. ManU famously lost Ronaldo to Real Madrid this summer, but picked up Michael Owen (who has been in surprisingly good form) and are still the favorite to win the Premiership.
