Last night, Valencia CF kicked off the season in grand fashion, with a satisfying 2-0 victory over Sevilla. Both “Los Che” and Sevilla are looking for the title of “Best Team that Isn’t Real Madrid or Barcelona”. Up-and-comers Juan Mata and Pablo hit the goals for the good guys.
Nice to have some good news! Valencia’s financial woes haven’t let up, and it’s questionable whether the Nou Mestalla will be ready on time. Extremely questionable. The club shocked pretty much everyone during transfer season by refusing to let go of its biggest stars — a gamble that will pay off only if they finish towards the top of the table.
If you haven’t been to the Mestalla yet, don’t delay. It’s one of Europe’s classic venues, with a steep grade facing the city and an incredible atmosphere. The Nou Mestalla will (should!) be done in August 2010.
